Millennials are the largest group effecting all business now and in the future, the one thing all Millennials have in common is they were brought up in the Digital Age. If business more specifically Hospitality does not begin to adjust the way they think about what customers want and incorporate Digital Marketing into there marketing plans you will be left behind. What was once slow is now happening at the speed of light!

As a hotel manager and digital marketing professional, I pay close attention to Digital Marketing and Millennials. Together they will be a major impact on how and what hotels must do to compete. My blog includes any articles post by reputable professionals that searched while working and feel are important to the future hospitality marketing.  

I believe the future is now so I am suggesting 3 action items that will help hotel managers appeal and market to a Millennial guest In the Digital Age.

  • Focus on staff: In the past hotels had a rigid description of who they are looking for to lead the sales. Today you have re-think the descriptions, today your staff must be creative, social and computer savvy. Education comes from many directions in the information age. Critical digital skills were most likely acquired online, one example is Google analytics is only available on Google and it is critical knowledge. I feel confident in saying your computer savvy creative social ready staff will outperform your cold callers!   
  • Learn Digital: Online there are many resources for professionals, for example, Northwestern University via Coursera offers a great online course on social marketing (#socialmediamarketing , @NUsocialmktg , Take a look.) Read articles from a digital marketing professional, not vendors trying to sell you a service. You do not need to know everything but in order to evaluate a good digital program or a future employee, you do need to know the difference between digital and magic.
  • Think Experience First: to Millennials, experiences matter more than anything, you only live once "#YOLO". this means business combined with leisure will be big business "BLeisure" in the hotel industry as well as digital perks.
